24/3/2004 14:52
From this year, students of primary and secondary schools in Hangzhou, the
capital of Zhejiang Province, will lead the nation with two more vacation
periods, according to a new semester rule of the city's education commission
circulated yesterday. Under the new rule, cited in today's Shanghai Morning
Post, students will have the additional vacation days in spring and autumn while
losing days from the winter and summer periods. The result will be a
four-semester academic system. The spring vacation will fall in the two weeks
around the May Day holiday, while the autumn holiday will be the first week of
November. This year's spring vacation will go from April 24 through May
9. To ensure enough academic weeks, students will have shorter vacations in
winter and summer.
