A new package of regulations, aiming to protect juvenile rights was put forward for discussion to the city's congress yesterday. If approved by the lawmaking body, the stipulations will restrict schools from overburdening students and promote a more fair student enrolling procedure.
According to the draft regulation, schools or teachers should not increase course requirements above the national or local standard, or add extra lessons, tests or examinations. Neither should they offer reference books or materials, or gain payment for giving extra classes.
Schools are required to fully inform the public of their enrolment processand primary and junior high school students should attend school according to their resident location, thus abolishing any selective entrance schemes. The draft also covers campus security guidlines, nearby cyber cafe administration, and the opening of school sports and recreation facilities to the public.
