Diplomatic opportunities for local graduates

Shanghai's fresh university graduates of 2005 may have the opportunity to start a diplomatic career if they pass the recruitment test given by the nation's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
MFA plans to recruit 202 civil servants next year, mostly from the Year 2005 graduates of 91 prestigious universities nationwide, including nine in Shanghai, the Shanghai Morning Post reported.
The nine local universities are Shanghai Jiao Tong, Fudan, East China Normal, Tongji, Shanghai, Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai Teacher's, East China University of Science and Technology and the East China Politics and Law Universties.
Students eligible for the recruitment test need to demonstrate an excellent academic performance with academic rankings among the top one-third of their classes and have passed the Grade Six level of the College English Test if they are not already English majors.
Once recruited, most of them (165) will be involved in foreign affairs and the others (37) in administrative work.
Students can sign up to apply for the test from August 20th to September 5th on MFA's official website www.mfa.gov.cn where they will need tofill out an application form.
After September 16th, they can log on to the website to check whether they have qualified.
The date of the test was not revealed in the Shanghai Morning Post report.
