After the opening ceremony of the Expo theme activity in the metro square at Lujiazui Pudong on September 20. tens of thousands of voluntees moved among the public in Shanghai promoting a more civilized standard of behavior for Shanghai residents.

During the ceremony, municipal leaders Yin Yicui, Wu Zhiming, Wang Zhongwei, Du Jiahao, Yang Xiaodu and Song Yiqiao presented the volunteers and their related departments with the activity flags.  After the ceremony, leaders from the municipal committee and the municipal civilized behavior committee made their rounds to Century Avenue in Pudong, Lujiazui Station of Metro Line Two and Jin'an Park to greet and appreciate the volunteers.

The Expo theme activity, scheduled to occur during several periods, will last from now to 2010.  The first period will implement four special activities to diminish uncivilized behaviors such as the spitting and littering of some Shanghai citizens by expanding the criteria of the "Seven Don'ts".  Secondly, there will be 200 first class city intersections and 800 district-level ones that will meet international standards by 2010.  At that time, with the combined efforts of the Shanghai Landscape Administration Bureau, the Shanghai Security Bureau and the related district departments, the coverage rate of appropriate bus stations, green lands and public toilets will be 100 percent.

Yin Yicui, deputy secretary of the municipal committee and standing deputy director of the municipal civilization committee, spoke at the ceremony.
