The Shanghai Literature & Art Publishing House yesterday released a
biography of the 21-year-old sprint hurdles champion Liu Xiang, the Laodong
Daily reported.
The biography depicts the childhood, family, life, coaching
and sports career of the Shanghai native, dubbed fly-man by locals for his
perfect performance at the recent Athens Olympics.
He dashed to the gold in
the 110-meter hurdles in a world-record-tying time of 12.91 seconds.
His
victory, the first for an Asian sportsman in 108 years in Olympic sprint events,
is described as a true championship performance which represents the start of a
new era for Asian athletics.
In Japan last Thursday, he beat the American
"King of Dash", Allen Johnson, at the Yokohama Super Track and Field meet with a
time of 13.31 seconds.
Johnson won the 200-meter and 400-meter sprint double
at the Atlanta Olympics.
