More than 20 percent of local elementary and middle school students are not
excited about the upcoming National Day holiday, according to a survey of more
than 300 students from six local elementary and middle schools, the Shanghai
Morning Post reported today.
More than a third of the elementary Grade Five
students surveyed were awaiting the holiday, while nearly a quarter of the Grade
Three students (but only 23 percent of local junior middle school students) were
eagerly longing for the vacation.
Students have different concerns about the
holiday.
"Too much homework will spoil the holiday," said a graduating
student from a local junior middle school, adding that teachers are likely to
add more homework for the holiday.
A fear of loneliness was cited as the main
reason for local elementary school students not looking forward to the holiday.
A little more than 35 percent of elementary Grade Three students were worried
about failing to find playmates during the holiday, saying that it is too lonely
to stay at home alone.
Many students did not have happy experiences during
the previous weeklong holidays. "I want to do the things I really want to do
during the vacation," said Zhang, a student.
Most students arrange their
holiday blindly, said a survey analyst.
