During a recent comprehensive test, at least 8 lightning rods on Metro Line 5 had been damaged by lightning or have interior malfunctions, it was revealed by the Modern Rail Transit Company Ltd, operator of Metro Line 5.
"We are now testing a new type of lightning rod to replace the old ones on Metro Line 5, "an official from the Company said. "Ten experimental rods have been installed on the train for the coming thunder storm season this spring."
The new type of lightning rod, which has been proved effective on Metro Line 3, will greatly increase the safety factor of the trains.
If this new rod works on Line 5, then installation of rest of the equipment would be completed by the end of this year.
