The northern section of the Middle-Ring Road linking Dabaishu and Guohe Road
of the Wujiaochang area has been completed and will open to traffic from 6 am
tomorrow.
The 3.4-kilometer section will join the other nine kilometers to
make up one-third of the Middle-Ring Road project already completed west of the
Huangpu River.
It will take just 10 minutes to drive through the four
northern downtown districts of Baoshan, Zhabei, Hongkou and Yangpu.
The ride
from Dabaishu to Shanghai International Circuit, where the Formula One
championship is held, will be shortened to half an hour. So will be the
trip to Hongqiao International Airport.
To speed up the construction of the
northern section, nearly 1,000 soldiers from the Shanghai Armed Police Forces
have helped carry steel pipes, wood and construction materials totalling over
5,400 tons, using 708 trucks, the builders said.
Construction workers are
arranging flowers and greenery along the road and expect these arrangements to
be completed at the end of this month. They will soon begin landscaping
the Middle-Ring Road project.
Separately, the western section of the
Middle-Ring Road in Beihong Road will open to traffic on September
30.
