Beginning October 29, a load test has been conducted at night on the East Sea
Bridge, which links Shanghai to the under-construction Yangshan Deep-Water
Port.
Last night, 24 container trucks, each weighing 55 tons, passed across
the six-lane bridge in over 20 different patterns as designed by the testing
staff. The staff recorded data at seven observation points and will report
them to bridge experts in the middle of this month, when the experts will
appraise the overall structure of the bridge. Appraisal on individual
sections has already been completed.
The load test is carried out at night so
as to minimize errors arising from fluctuating temperatures during daytime.
