Urban
transportation experts and managers from 16 cities in the Yangtze River Delta
region attended a traffic forum in Shanghai yesterday on the comprehensive
development of traffic in the area. More than 400 of the top 500 global
enterprises have launched operations in the 16 cities, and nearly 100 industrial
parks, each with an annual industrial output of more than 10 billion yuan
(US$1.3 billion), have gathered in the region. According to the plan, which
was jointly made by Shanghai and the nearby Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces, a
comprehensive transportation framework for the Yangtze River Delta region has
been formed. By 2010, it should only take three hours to drive between Shanghai
and the other parts of the area. At the forum, nearly 100 famous experts,
scholars and representatives from home and abroad discussed issues like road
planning and construction, transportation information services and intelligent
traffic systems.
