The first phase project of the Yangshan Deep-water Port operated smoothly over the past ten months, fulfilling the annual capacity target of 2.2 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of containers two months ahead of schedule.
By yesterday, the port had handled a total of 2.25 million TEUs of containers entering or leaving the port, with nearly 700 ships, each with a capacity of 5,000 TEU containers.
The second-phase project of the port also began to operate on a trial basis to prepare for the official operation in December.
The Yangshan Deep-water Port has maintained a lead in loading & uploading efficiency worldwide. When the port began operation at the end of last year, the bridge cranes were able to load or upload 25 TEUs of containers per hour, and the number increased to 27 in January of this year, 30 in March and 35 in April.
At present, more than 50 shipping and cargo freight companies have operated in the port, including the top global 20 companies.
