Metro users cautioned
27/2/2003 15:02

In response to the Korean subway tragedy, the transit authority has issued a notification to ease crowding in the People's Square transfer station, linking line 1 and 2.

The heavy flow of transferring passengers between the two lines causes congestion, especially during rush hour and holidays, which could lead to accidents.

The notification reminds users that there are two transfer corridors, one for each direction.

Passengers transferring from line 1 to line 2 should use the long sloping corridor with no escalators. Passengers moving in the other direction should take the short passageway with escalators going up.

Congestion is only a problem in the short passageway, because many users transferring from line 1 to line 2 take the short passage rather than the long corridor, either to save time or because they don't know the correct usage.

There are signs at the entrance of both routes, with arrows and written directions.

New color-coded floor indicators have been developed but are not yet in place.
