Pudong Airport checking temperatures with infrared
24/4/2003 15:07

Starting yesterday afternoon, infrared equipment is being used to check the temperature of all passengers entering Shanghai through the Pudong International Airport, a bid to detect any SARS cases at an early stage and prevent possible spread.

The machine emits a signal if a passenger's temperature is higher than 37.8 degrees Celsius. No passenger running a fever has been detected so far, the airport said.

A portable infrared machine is currently being used, and similar equipment will be installed at the gates of the airport in two or three days.

Airports in Beijing and Shenzhen are already using similar equipment to prevent the possible spread of SARS.
