Suburb county plans more green coverage
11/6/2003 15:09

A green land of 15,000 mu will be built to the north of the Shanghai Chemical Industrial Zone in the Fengxian County in the near future, township government announced today.
The green coverage is expected to reduce the pollution possibly caused by the factories in the industrial zone.
The joint developer of the green land, Huqiao Township of the Fengxian County and Shanghai Hongyi Investment Co Ltd, said the first phase of 5,000 mu will be completed in two years.
In an effort to cultivate large areas of seaside forests to reduce the wind speed of the region and clean the air, Fengxian County planted some 800,000 trees with an area of 53,300 mu last year, raising the green coverage rate of the district to near 15 percent.
Most of the trees are in the family of the furs, camphors, pines and gingkos.
With the green coverage increasing steadily, Fengxian county is expected to be developed into an integrited tourism, sightseeing and leisure center in the future.
