Maglev train tests completed
18/7/2003 15:11
Operational tests for the first group of double-rail maglev trains have
completed recently, marking a new success for the grand project, the government
website reports today. The two trains running in the opposite direction on
the couple of rails have both reached the highest speed of 430 km per hour
during the test, which guarantees that the newly built double rail system can
witness a highest relative speed of 860 km per hour during operation. The
testing success also put Shanghai at the top of the world in terms of the maglev
technology, because Germany, the originator of such trains, has only
successfully launched the single rail trains.
