Metro to compensate more for train delays
30/9/2003 15:14

Starting tomorrow, passengers taking Shanghai's Metro 1 or 2 lines will get one more free ticket as well as a ticket refund in compensation for train delays, today's Jiefang Daily said.
Citing officials with Shanghai Metro Operation Co Ltd, the report said passengers involved in a train delay will be eligible for one more free ride within one month after an accident.
The free ride, which is more compensation than required by the city's rail transport regulations, is to show the metro's concern for inconvenience caused by poor service, metro officials said.
Meanwhile, the extra compensation, which increases economic burdens for the SMO, aims at forcing the metro operator to improve its service.
SMO has been under strong attack for delays for three consecutive days last week during the morning rush hours. In response, metro vows to take measures to improve its service, the key transport vehicle for the local working population.
The company has printed apology letters in case of future railway delays. It will present these letters to its passengers delayed by accidents and will offer testimony for these delays to employers of these passengers.
