China is developing its port business faster than other east Asian
nations to become a new international harbor center, eastday.com reported
today. "The international business world is speedily moving its harbor
businesses to China," Li Zhengdong, secretary general of the China Harbor
Association said yesterday at the "International Summit on China's
Ports." "The concentration will result in the reshuffle of key Asian ports,"
he added. An international shipping survey on the prospects of world harbor
business by 2015 also reveals that by 2010, China will be able to maintain its
port throughput increase at a rate above the 10.3 percent average of the east
Asian nations. Among the 20 biggest ports in the world now, nine are Chinese
port cities. Three of them, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen, have also been
listed among the world's top five container harbors.
