Shanghai's roads add up to 6485.61 kilometers by the end of 2003, and the
city's highways will reach more than 540 kilometers by 2005, the transportation
authority revealed yesterday.
Inter-city highways linking Shanghai with
neighboring Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces will go through a facelift in the
next two years, with more highroads constructed and traffic lanes added.
Construction on several freeways connecting downtown Shanghai and its
suburban Jiading and Jinshan and city's outskirts will be completed in late 2004
or early 2005, adding Shanghai's general transportation volume.
