Railway revenue targets
23/2/2004 15:18

China hopes for a profit of 2.5 billion yuan (US$302 million) this year in the railway transport sector, according to recent business targets from the Ministry of Railways.
The sector expects to carry some 180 million passengers and 2.3 billion tons of cargo this year, with revenue predicted at 163 billion yuan, Eastday.com learned today at the national railway working conference.
To meet these targets, the ministry will carry out the fifth national speed-up program with the railway service in April and add more express services as well as city-to-city services and tourism rides.
The cargo sector will receive priority treatment for cargo, postal shipments, and containers, and double-decker trains and non-stop rides will link material producing areas and economically developed regions.
