City to reshape traffic routes

Shanghai's traffic authority will move 50 bus stations and re-chart
some specialized traffic routes for public transportation this year to further
improve the local traffic, today's Wenhui Daily reported. According to the
patrol group of Shanghai Public Security Bureau, bus routes have increased
sharply with the development of the city's road transportation service. Many of
the lines overlap, particularly on some main road sections. On some roads, up
to 40 bus lines operate, while at some bus stations some 30 lines stop, traffic
officials said. Currently, 50 bus companies operate 18,625 buses on 952
routes in Shanghai, carrying 7.5 million passengers every day.
