The debut of faster trains has encouraged more locals to travel by
train recently, despite a fortnight away from the weeklong May Day holiday, the
Laodong Daily reported today. According to the Shanghai Railway Travel
Service Co Ltd, all the more than 4,500 tickets have been sold out for ten
special tourist trains from April 23 to May 31, with more than 30 railway routes
proving very popular for the upcoming May Day holiday. "We have opened
several new tourist itineraries such as to Quzhou and Wuyuan, and keep the
original popular scenic spots such as Wuyishan Mountain and Huangshan Mountain,"
said Xu Dinghai, general manager with the Shanghai Railway Travel Service Co
Ltd. A holiday train to Jinggangshan Mountain will start on May 3, and
special long-haul tourist trains to Zhangjiajie, Guiyang and Guilin will start
on May 10 and 21, Xu added.
