Buildings at 40
old residential quarters in Shanghai will be renovated with sloped roofs this
year, with 42,390 households expected to enjoy better living conditions,
according to the Shanghai Housing and Land Resources Administrative Bureau on
September 14. Early this year, the Shanghai municipal government promised
overall to complete renovations for 30 old residential quarters this year. Now
the projects are expected to be completely finished by the end of this
year. There are 969 apartment buildings in the 40 residential quarters, with
a total floor space of 2.4 million square meters. By yesterday, four projects
were completed, 34 were underway, with renovations for two residential quarters
to start soon. "The government projects have offered timely help for us,
solving the long-standing problems in the structures and functions of our old
buildings, such as blocked drainages, leaked roofs and rough roads,"said a local
citizen, adding that new technologies were adopted in the renovations. This
year, the Shanghai Housing and Land Resources Administrative Bureau also plans
to integrate neighboring residential quarters to make room for parking lots and
combine the resources of 11 residential quarters which are supervised by many
property management firms to improve their management
standards.
