Shanghai will complete the construction of a three-tier recycle network next
spring, with more than 1,000 community collection stations, 200-odd sub-district
collection stations, and a large city-wide sorting plant.
The network will
handle half of the city's wastes, recycling them into usable
resources.
Preparations are underway for the construction of the sorting
plant, the first of its kind in the city. Zhejiang-based glass giant Farun Group
has won the bid to build and operate the plant in the southeast at
Huacao.
Greenery is to cover more than 25 percent of the plant's 60-mu (4
hectare) area.
According to the city's recycle network plan, unveiled in
2002, more such plants will be built between the Outer and Inner Ring
Roads.
The municipal government will provide subsidies to aid the
construction, officials with the Shanghai Economic Commission said.
It is
considering including electronic wastes such as used computers and home
appliances in the recycle network, the officials added.
They did not reveal
the amount of the investment in the plant.
Meanwhile, Brazilian firm Renxin
Group is planning to invest US$2 million to construct the city's first treatment
center for electronic appliances in Qingpu District next year, according to
today's Shanghai Daily.
