Farewell to clickety-clack track
28/9/2004 17:24

Rachel Hou / Shanghai Daily news

Jointed tracks have been replaced by continuous welded rails (CWR) along the railway between Shanghai and Nanjing, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.
CWR, welded for several kilometres at a stretch, gives trains a much faster and smoother ride than jointed tracks. The clickety-clack rhythm of the rails will also vanish with the jointless rail tracks.
The railway between Shanghai and Nanjing stretches 303 kilometers and is one of China's busiest railways.
