Shanghai Daily News

The city's Metro network will expand from its current four lines encompassing 82 kilometers to 11 lines and 400-plus kilometers by the time the 2010 World Expo opens.

When construction is complete, the city's subways will accommodate an average 6 million riders a day, compared with the present 1.3 million figure. At that point, subway passengers will account for 35 percent of all commuters using the public transport.
