The Shanghai South Railway Station, which is still under construction in
south city's Xuhui District, is expected to begin operations at the end of June,
about six months ahead of schedule.
The construction company's head office
announced the adjusted plan yesterday. The early completion date is a bid
to alleviate the heavy traffic in the downtown Xujiahui area with the new
railway hub.
The new plan came after the municipal government announced a
month ago to solve the city's traffic woes.
With the new railway terminal,
key roads in the neighboring areas will be connected with a round-about to
enable quick traffic dispersal.
Meanwhile, the reconstruction of the South
Railway station for Rail Transport Line 3 will be completed in June, one month
ahead of the schedule, its constructor said.
At that time, people will easily
be able to transfer at the station between the Rail Transport Lines 1 and 3, and
the railway service.
