As of January 1 next year, Shanghai will start to collect disposal charges on
domestic wastes from local companies and public units, today's Shanghai Morning
Post reported.
According to the Shanghai City Appearance & Environmental
Sanitation Administrative Bureau, the disposal fees will be counted on the basis
of government guiding prices, different quantities and industries.
The
government department will set a certain amount of wastes as a base quantity
every year. For local companies, public units and private business operators,
those with domestic wastes within the base amount will be charged at a maximum
of 40 yuan (US$4.8) per barrel; those with domestic wastes exceeding the base
quantity will be charged at a maximum of 80 yuan per barrel. Luxury
entertainment places such as hotels, ballrooms, bathrooms have to pay double the
charges.
Public welfare units such as rest homes are expected to be
partially or totally exempted from the charges.
