Located in Shanghai, Asia's largest coach station will begin operation during
the 2005 spring festival, helping to relieve the congestion caused by heavy
passenger use at that time, reported today's Oriental Morning Post.
The new
station consists of a round ticket hall, a wing shape waiting area, a business
building and a three-story parking lot. A 30-meter corridor next to the ticket
hall will connect with entries to Shanghai Railway Station, and Metro Lines One
and Three. Upon its completion, the new station will transport 20,000 passengers
per day, up to one third of the city's total.
The two existing coach
stations in the neighborhood of the railway station cannot meet the continuously
increasing customer demand. Experts have estimated that 473, 000 passenger will
flow through one of these local coach hubs during the next spring
festival.
Also under discussion is the proposal to include
10 special ticket windows for the Shanghai Railway Station in the coach hub.
