Shanghai is well on its way to becoming an international center for shipping and air transportation. Shanghai Port had 14,550,000 container throughputs this year, 16 million tons of cargo more than the port of Rotterdam in the same period. As well, Phase II of the construction at the Yangshan Deep-water Harbor and the Yangtze Estuary and deep waterway, the city's two key projects, are progressing smoothly. Furthermore, the completion of Waigaoqiao container terminal IV phase will add to the total throughput by one million tons.
As well, the city is increasing its presence as an international hub with 35,800,000 passenters flowing through the city's two airports. These numbers will soon increase. The second airstrip at Pudong International Airport is to be put into operation next March 28.  The 60-meter-wide and 3,800-long airstrip will land the world's largest aerobus, the A380.
Also, with the help of CAAC (Civil Aviation Administration of China), the local government is developing Shanghai into an international aviation hub.  By now, 55 passengers out of 100 in city's airfreight port are foreigners.
