Lopez replaces Ferrer to lead Spanish Davis Cup team

Spanish tennis player Feliciano Lopez, ranked number 37 world wide by the Association of Tennis Professionals, will replace David Ferrer in the nation's Davis Cuptennis team, team captain Emilio Sanchez told media yesterday.

The rest of the team Spain will field against Peru will be Tommy Robredo, ranked 12th, Fernando Verdasco, ranked 29th, and Nicolas Almago, ranked 31st.

Peru will field the nation's top racket, Luis Horna, who is ranked 76th world wide. The rest of the team is Ivan Miranda and newcomers Matias Silva and Mauricio Echazu: both juveniles with little international experience.

The first elimination match in 2008's Davis Cup World Group between Peru and Spain will run from Friday to Sunday at the Peru Jockey Club in Peru's capital, Lima.

Spain's team arrived in Lima on Saturday, but was missing Rafael Nadal, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Ferrer, who are Spain's top-rated players.
