Former boxing world champion murdered in Vienna

The former WAA boxing world champion Edip Sekowitsch was found stabbed to death in front of his Vienna-located pub yesterday, police said.

According to the police, the 50-year-old Serbian-born boxer was stabbed by a knife four times on his upper body and neck. The murdering was believed to have taken place between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. local time.

A 26-year-old Russian was arrested as suspect. He was found dressing in blood-smeared clothes and was injured near the body of Sekowitsch.

Sekowitsch, nicknamed "the Serbian bull", immigrated to Austriain the early 1980s and won the light middleweight boxing world championship in 1988. He won also the European championship in 1989.

He retired in 2002 and opened the pub in Austrian capital of Vienna.
