Three of Cuba's key beach volleyball players called it quits yesterday,
after more than 10 years as the leading players of the national teams.
Tamara Larrea, Dalixia Fernandez and Francis Alvarez Cutilo, Central American
and Caribbean champions and winners of medals at the Pan American Games,
announced their retirement to the press.
Alvarez Cutilo, 39, was the most veteran of Cuba. Cutilio participated in the
Olympic Games in 1996 and Athens 2004, and he won the Pan Americans of Santo
Domingo 2003.
Larrea and Fernandez competed in the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000, Athens
2004 and Beijing 2008.
