The ING Renault Formula One racing team confirmed yesterday that Spanish
driver Fernando Alonso will drive for them again next season.
Alonso has extended his deal with the team to include the 2009 and 2010
seasons, putting to an end rumors that he would switch to race for Ferrari.
"We are happy to confirm that Alonso and Nelson (Piquet) will be with us for
next season. That will assure that the ING Renault team has one of the most
exciting pairs of drivers, with a perfect combination of youth and experience,"
team director Flavio Briatore told the team website.
Meanwhile Alonso, who finished second in last weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix,
where Lewis Hamilton was proclaimed world champion, also explained his reasons
for remaining with ING Renault.
"I have decided to continue here, because it was always my first option and I
feel very happy and comfortable with them."
"It is a team that is very united and has a winning and competitive
mentality, while at the same time it is relaxed and welcoming," said Alonso.
