Palmeiras head coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo was denounced yesterday for his
actions in last Sunday's soccer game.
During the team's 2-1 victory over Santos, Luxemburgo charged onto the field
after a controversial call by the referee which allowed a goal by Santos despite
the line judge's call for offsides. Due to the coach's behavior, he will have to
appear in front of the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD).
Luxemburgo is accused of breaking article 274 of the code of conduct. The
code reads that a coach or staff member may not invade the field of where the
referee is in command, or during a game in play, nor during half time, without
the referee's consent.
The penalty for breaking the code ranges from 120 to 720 days suspension.
Luxemburgo will appear in front of the court to respond to the charges on
Tuesday.
In an earlier episode in March, the coach had to appear in front of the
Superior Court of Sport Justice of Sao Paulo for allegedly disrespecting the
authority of a referee. Luxemburgo was fined US$ 25,000 for the incident during
a game against Rio Preto in the Brasileiro Championship.
