US Wimbledon champion Venus Williams will be the top draw of the 2009
Mexican Open in Acapulco, organizers said yesterday.
Mexican Open director Raul Zurutuza said in a press conference in Mexico City
that Williams accepted to participate for the first time in the top tennis event
in Mexico.
Italian and world No. 13 Flavia Penetta will also appear in the event.
Zurutuza added that the men's action will attract world No. 21 Tommy Robredo
from Spain.
The Mexican Open will be held from Feb. 23 to 28 with a total prize of
US$1.47 million.
