Eight countries have confirmed their participation in the first
China-ASEAN (10 plus 3) Boxing Championship from December 20 to 24 in Nanning,
southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, an official of the
organizing committee said yesterday.
According to Liu Xiaohong, deputy head of the organizing committee, the eight
countries are China, South Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam,
Myanmar and Cambodia
"Boxing is not popular in Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore, and that's why they
will not take part in this competition. While Laos and Japan are not decided yet
to compete in this Championship," Liu said.
This championship is co-sponsored by Federation of Asian Amateur boxing
association, General Administration of Sport of China, Guangxi Regional
government, and China International Friendly Exchange Association.
According to Liu, nearly 100 famous boxers will fight for championships in
eight categories: 48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg and 75kg.
Every participating country can choose five categories to compete in, and
only one boxer is allowed to take part in each category's contest.
Chinese boxers from Guangdong, Jiangsu, inner Mongolia and armed forces will
participate in 48kg, 57kg, 60kg, 69kg, and 75kg categories during the
championship.
