Brazilian soccer club Flamengo said yesterday that their main priority as
of now is to keep Ibson, one of their stars on board.
Ibson is considered to be a key part of the team's offense. With the player's
contract coming to a close, the team's directors hoped to extend his contract
before having to deal with the possibility of losing him.
"We are going to try to extend his loan to Flamengo until the end of 2009,"
said the team's director of soccer, Plinio Serpa Pinto
However, some members of the team's administration do not believe that the
player is worth the time, money and hassle.
Other members of the team, such as Jonatas, Josiel and Sambuezaare in a
similar situation. The only difference is that other teams abroad are interested
in taking the players away from Flamengo. In this case, the players are more of
a pawn than an actual member of the team.
The team did make it clear that no Flamengo player will be traded to rival
teams within Rio de Janeiro such as Botafogo or Fluminense.
"In Rio, any player from Flamengo will only go to Vasco and no others," said
Pinto.
The team also openly expressed their interest in Diguinho. The forward is now
on the market after breaking ties with his former team, Botafogo.
