Isinbayeva stumbles at Super Grand Prix in Stockholm
26/7/2006 17:16

Olympic and world pole vault champion Yelena Isinbayeva of Russia has been relegated to second place at the Super Grand Prix Meeting in Stockholm yesterday.
Poland's Monika Pyrek caused the biggest upset of the evening, triumphing with clearing the 4.62 meters height in an earlier attempt, though failing to go any higher.
Isinbayeva managed the same height, which was well short of the Russian's world record clearance of 5.01.
The loss, however, did not worry Isinbayeva ahead of next month's European championships in Gothenburg.
Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell enjoyed a near perfect start to win the men's 100 meters in 9.86 seconds, quite far away from breaking his own world record time of 9.77 set in Athens in 2005.
American Tyson Gay was second placed on 9.97 while Marcus Brunson finished third with 10.09.
His compatriot Sherone Simpson equalled this year's best time of 22.00 seconds in the women's 200, beating American Sanya Richards (22.35) into second place.
Bahamas's Debbie Ferguson was third (22.59), while American Allyson Felix, the event's world champion, finished only fifth (22.71).
In the men's 400 meters, American Jeremy Wariner produced an excellent run to win in 44.02 seconds.
