8/1/2007 16:40

Brasilian riders repeated their victory of last year to win both events of the seventh edition of the Copa America de Ciclismo - the America's Cycling Cup, yesterday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
After 16 laps (68.672 km) of the Interlagos Formula 1 track, the Brazilian Nilceu dos Santos was stronger in the final sprint than Argentina's Francisco Chamorro and another Brasilian Raphael Serpa, to retain his title for the second time.
The top three finished the race with a time of 1h 39:19, their average speed was 41.487 km per hour.
Luciano Pagliarini, top Brazilian rider in Europe with Spain's Saunier Duval and the only rider already chosen by Brazil's sports authorities for the upcoming Pan American games, only ended the game with a lamentable 38th place.
The women's race was five laps for a total of 21.5 km, Brazilian rider Clemilda Fernandes dominated also for the third time with a resultat of 38:02. Her compatriot Debora Gerhard took the second place and Italy's Rosane Kirch third place, with the same time as the champion.
It is an extremely important race for the Brazilian due to the fact that it is one of the only international cycling races in Brazil. The winners will probably go to the Pan American Games, which will be held in July in Rio de Janeiro, second biggest city of Brazil.
