Despite the misfortunes in the World Cup downhill on Saturday, the two
American ski stars Julia Mancuso and Lindsey Kildow still captured the top two
places of the World Cup Women's Super Combined yesterday in Zauchensee,
Austria. The former Olympic champion Mancuso piped her team-mate Kildow with
a narrow advantage of 0.06 seconds and finished with the combined time in
2:09.16. Austrian Slalom specialist Marlies Schild was third in 2:09.99. In
the Saturday's World Cup downhill, Mancuso lost her balance on the final jump
and placed third, while Kildow crashed into the side-netting and did not finish
the race. Due to the crash 24 hours earlier, Kildow was still a little
nervous before Sunday's races and thought she would have been very happy if she
just finished her slalom run. However, she did not just finish the race, but
ran with a very good performance. "Really awesome that I did so well," she
commented after the race. Meanwhile, her compatriot Mancuso, the 21-year-old
Sunday's winner, was also very excited with her performances and the last
results of her team. "What a great victory! Not only for me, but also for my
team! This is really one of the best days for American skiing since a long
time," she said. In the latest overall standings, Austrian Schild still kept
her lead with 881 points, while Mancuso is fifth with 534 points and Kildow
placed sixth with 528.
