Brazil must comply with 141 demands before soccer governing body FIFA
will award it the 2014 World Cup, Rui Rodrigues, lead organizer for Brazil's bid
said yesterday. "I never though it would be so complicated. I have already
coordinated complex events and I love to do so. But the 2014 World Cup work is
the biggest of all," he said. "And it is unique. No one organizes two World Cups
in his life," he added. FIFA sent a 92-page document to the Brazil Football
Federation (CBF) detailing all requirements, of which 10 require formal
government commitment. It also recommended that Brazil stage the event in only
12 cities, although 18 regions have expressed interest in the event. The CBF
has already budgeted eight million reales (about US$3.95 million US) by November
on the bid. Donations that add to this amount must be formally declared to
FIFA. After Colombia formally withdrew, Brazil is the only nation bidding for
the 2014 Cup. The 2010 Cup will be held in South Africa.
