Argentina accepts to launch joint bid for World Cup 2030 with Uruguay

Argentina's Football Association (AFA) officially stated its
willingness to jointly organize with Uruguay the soccer World Cup 2030,
according to a letter to Uruguay's Football Association (AUF) being made public
yesterday. "AFA's Executive Committee unanimously approved your initiative
(Uruguay's) of postulating ourselves to jointly organize the Federation
International Football Associations (FIFA) World Soccer Cup-2030," it
said. The letter, dated October 17 and having AFA's president Julio
Grondona's signature, was written to AUF's president Jose Luis Corbo and
published yesterday afternoon by Uruguayan media. "If this goal is
accomplished it will clearly help to strengthen Uruguay's and Argentina's
friendship ties more so," Grondona said in the letter. The year 2030 will be
the first centennial anniversary of the 1st Soccer World Cup held in Uruguay's
capital, Montevideo, which was won by the host country after defeating Argentina
in the final.
