13/5/2008 17:26

Ecuador midfielder Edison Mendez announced yesterday to return to the international soccer after quitting the national team in February.
"I want to apologize to the Ecuadorean people, to my mother and my son," the PSV Eindhoven player told reporters. "I want to be part of the team which qualifies for the World Cup in South Africa."
Mendez, 29, has made 81 international appearances, scored 13 goals, and been included in the 2002 and 2006 World Cup squads as Ecuador firstly made the Finals six years ago.
His announcement came after a meeting with directors of the Ecuadorean Football Federation (FEF).
Ecuador are eighth in the 10-team South American World Cup qualifying group with three points from four games, and will next play a friendly away to France on May 27 before a World Cup qualifier against Argentina in Buenos Aires on June 15.
