Flamengo stays atop Brazilian soccer league with 3-1 win

Flamengo defeated Ipatinga 3-1 for its first road victory of the season yesterday and remained atop the Brazilian national championship.
The result left Flamengo with 16 points and ahead of Gremio on goal difference.
Juan opened scoring 12 minutes into the second half after Leonardo Moura's initial shot rebounded off the goalkeeper's hands.
Flamengo controlled the match from that point, doubling its lead on Ibson's goal in the 66th.
Tiago Vieira pulled one goal back for Ipatinga in the 81st but Kleberson dribbled around two defenders and drove a left-footer into the back of the net in the 90th.
Gremio kept pace, getting three penalties from Roger to beat 10-man Atletico-PR 3-0 to move into second place.
Roger hit the left sidenetting in the 12th with his first penalty after he was fouled hard by Fahel, who drew a yellow card.
In the 58th, Fahel again fouled Roger drawing a second yellow and penalty.
Roger was again fouled in the area in the 72nd and converted for a third goal.
Cruzeiro beat Figueirense 3-0 on Saturday, with the striker Weldon scoring two in the second half to put the match out of reach.
It was the fourth-straight win at home for Cruzeiro, giving it 16 points and keeping pace with Flamengio and Gremio, but in third on goal difference.
Guilherme converted a penalty in the 34th before Weldon added a header in the 56th and a left-footer in the 67th.
Palmeiras moved into fifth place with a 2-0 win over Vasco _ its first road victory _ giving the Sao Paulo squad 13 points.
Vasco controlled the match early, creating two scoring opportunities in the first 10 minutes. But Palmeiras rallied, taking the lead on a nicely placed header from striker Alex Mineiro in the 35th.
In the second half, Vasco again came out aggressively, but Palmeiras countered and added to its lead on Kleber's goal in the 75th.
Defending champion Sao Paulo needed 90 minutes to get a goal by Hugo, but prevailed over Sport 1-0 in Adriano's farewell game before he returns to European play. It was the team's third-straight victory.
In other games, Nautico beat Atletico-MG 2-1, Portuguesa beat Botafogo 1-0 on the road, Coritiba got by Fluminense 2-1, Vitoria won 2-1 over Internacional, and Goias blasted Santos 4-0.
