The King Abdullah II Cup (KAC) kicked off its seventh year today with
eight teams competing for the title, local daily Jordan Times
reported. Jordan is scheduled to play against Egypt, Syria and Morocco in
Group 1 while Group 2 consists of Tunisia, Qatar, Kuwait and Cyprus after
Lebanon pulled out following their elimination from the Olympic
qualifiers. Jordan's youth coach Munster Abul Tayyeb will lead the lineup
which will be a mix of seniors and mostly U-23 team members. Saudi Arabia won
the title in 2002 followed by Egypt in 2003, Jordan in 2004, Lebanon in 2005 and
Lebanon's Riyadi Club in 2006. Jordan beat Tunisia last year to win the title
for the second time.
