Nuria Dominguez, the only rower that represents Spain at Beijing Olympics,
said in Beijing today that she expects to have a tough race in the women's
single sculls event. "I attended the Athens Games in 2004 and there are more
strong rivals here in Beijing," the 34-year-old told a news briefing in the Main
Press Center (MPC). Dominguez finished sixth in the women's single in Athens,
but she failed to make the final over the past three world championships and
this year's three World Cups. "I'm in good form, but I don't care too much
about where I'll going in the race," she said, adding that a medal wasn't in her
plan. Ekaterina Karsten of Belarus and Miroslava Knapkova of the Czech
Republic are expected to be her formidable competitors as the two have dominated
the single event over the past three years. The Spanish added that she was
troubled by the hot weather and high humidity in the Chinese capital. The
rowing racing is scheduled to be held between August 9 and 17 at the Shunyi
Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park.
