Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping today met separately with senior officials
from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and Saudi Arabia,
stressing China's cooperation with the two.
In a meeting with Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK's
Supreme People's Assembly, Xi thanked the DPRK for its support for the Beijing
Olympic Games. He said China and the DPRK should carry on the good tradition
forged by former generations of leaders.
"It is our common responsibility to carry on the traditional friendship from
one generation to another," Xi said.
In a separate meeting with Prince Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz,
secretary-general of Saudi Arabia's National Security Council, Xi said the
China-Saudi Arabia friendship should constantly bear new fruits.
Xi noted that China-Saudi Arabia relations have entered into a fast-growing
new stage. The two countries should push their cooperation to a higher level, he
said.
Both Kim Yong Nam and Prince Bandar are here for the opening ceremony of the
Beijing Olympic Games, due to be held tonight.
