Germany's Schoneborn leads modern pentathlon after two disciplines

Lena Schoneborn of Germany led the women's modern pentathlon after the
shooting and fencing disciplines at the Fencing Hall today. Schoneborn,
ranked third in the world, came 20th in the shooting before winning the fencing
for a total of 2132 points. World No. 2 Aya Medany form Egypt was second
overall on 2072 points after coming joint eighth in the shooting and joint fifth
in the fencing. Heather Fell of Britain, Anastasia Samusevich of Belarus and
Paulina Boenisz of Poland were joint third overall on 2036. Belinda Schreiber
of Switzerland, ranked No. 38 in the world, won the shooting with a score of
188, but dropped to ninth overall after finishing joint 17th in the
fencing. Canada's Monica Pinette was joint second in the shooting
with Samusevich, but dropped to joint 24th overall after coming 33rd in the
fencing. Gold medal favourite Amelie Caze from France was joint 12th overall
after finishing joint 19th in the shooting and joint fifth in the
fencing. Defending Olympic champion Zsuzsanna Voros of Hungary was joint 20th
overall after coming 12th and joint 25th in the first two events. Elena
Rublevska of Latvia finished second in the fencing but was 16th overall after a
200-point deduction for a weapon irregularity dropped her from 13th to 35th in
the shooting.
