3/9/2008 17:45

Mexican sports authorities hailed yesterday its fourth best performance in the Olympic Games and promised better results in 2012.
Mexico participated in the Beijing Olympics with 85 athletes and won three medals - two gold medals in taekwondo (Guillermo Perez and Maria del Rosario Espinoza) and a bronze in the synchronized diving (Tatiana Ortiz and Paola Espinoza).
"The results satisfied us," said Carlos Hermosillo, director of the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE).
From the past 20 Olympic Games, the best performance came from the Mexico City Olympics in 1968 when the host won nine medals (three gold, three silver and three bronze). The second best was Los Angeles 1984 with two gold medals, two silver and one bronze, and in London 1948 with two gold, one silver and two bronze.
