Jordan to play South Korea in soccer friendly

Jordan takes on South Korea today in a soccer friendly as the team looks
ahead to the final qualifying round of the Asian Football Confederation's 2011
Asian Cup starting on January 14, 2009. The national team coach Jamal Abu
Abed said meeting teams like South Korea, currently ranked 51st, would give
players, especially the younger ones, much needed international exposure and
experience. The coaching staff has recommended that the team re-group for a
match every month during the upcoming period as players are also busy with the
regular season which gets into full force with the Premier League on September
11. Earlier this year, Jordan played South Korea twice before being
eliminated from Round 3 Asian World Cup qualifiers. It was Jordan's seventh
time at the qualifiers since 1986, but the team has never gone past the Asian
group stages. After holding a top-five spot among Asian and Arab teams,
Jordan's ranking plummeted, ending 2007 ranked 120th. It climbed to the 113th
in the latest FIFA World Ranking issued on Wednesday. In zonal ranking, Jordan
went up to 14th place among Asian Football Confederation teams as well as among
Arab teams.
